Aesthetic medicine is becoming more and more accessible. Thanks to the advances and the wide range of minimally invasive techniques that exist today, prices have been reduced considerably, which has meant that a large part of the population can access it if they wish. Undoubtedly, this is one of the reasons why the average age at which aesthetic treatments are performed in Spain has decreased. More and more young people are turning to aesthetic medicine.
According to the Spanish Society of Aesthetic Medicine , the average age to start aesthetic treatments was 35 years a decade ago, today it is 20 years old. Social networks also have a large part of responsibility and, unfortunately, a large part of adolescents feel insecure with their bodies due to the standards seen on social networks.
Young people, in adolescence, often experience many physical and emotional changes that can have a negative impact on self-esteem. According to a survey conducted in Italy, 78% of adolescent girls and 54% of adolescent girls are dissatisfied with their physical image.
What can it mean for young people to make use of aesthetic medicine?
There is no conclusive answer to this question, as we must take into account many factors such as the reason for the treatments and the maturity of the person.
As we have mentioned before, adolescents usually spend a time with greater physical and emotional insecurity that, with the passage of time and maturity, is usually seen from another perspective. In these cases, it is always preferable that the person is mature enough not to make a decision lightly, especially if we are talking about an invasive treatment that substantially modifies a part of our body.
However, there are other circumstances for which many young people turn to aesthetic medicine: a physical malformation, whether congenital or acquired. In these cases it is usually more than justified. Another example is aesthetic medicine treatments for acne marks, which are minimally invasive and the result is optimal.
In short, at Clínica Bajo we believe that it is important to study each specific case, to know the reasons why one treatment or another is chosen and to advise professionally taking into account all the circumstances.
