Vacation and oral health: basic tips

In the summer season, people usually enjoy vacations in which their routines change completely. Whether we go on a trip or not, the truth is that our schedules, our diet, our habits, etc., change. And that can compromise our oral health if we don’t pay a little attention to it.

From Clínica Bajo, we believe that by following some simple tips, we can take care of our oral health even when we are on vacation. It is only necessary to pay attention to some details to achieve it.

Tips for taking care of oral health during vacations

Hydration. In summer, temperatures rise considerably, so it is common to feel dry mouth. We cannot forget that this is the first symptom of dehydration, so it is important to keep our body hydrated to avoid it, drinking enough water a day (2 liters, approximately).

Food. We know that eating habits change during vacations, and people tend to eat out more often, for example. However, the heat also makes us want to eat fresh things like salad or fruit, and we should take advantage of that. Trying to maintain a balanced diet is not only good for oral health, but for the health of the entire body. It is important to avoid processed foods with high levels of sugar.

Oral hygiene. If we cannot brush after each meal, it is important to do it at least twice a day, use a quality toothpaste and other tools such as dental floss. You can also consider the option of having a professional cleaning after the holidays to achieve deep hygiene.

Prevent accidents. Summer is the time of year when the most injuries occur that cause dental fractures. We must avoid some habits such as biting ice and hard objects and always use mouthguards when performing activities or sports that are risky and/or involve contact.

If you have specific questions about the health of your mouth, at Clínica Bajo we can help you establish a care routine that adapts to your specific needs. Enjoying the summer with good oral health is possible.
