Uso de hilo dental como parte de la higiene interdental recomendada por clínica dental de Tenerife

Flossing is by no means a modern invention of hygiene. There is evidence that at the beginning of the nineteenth century, some dentists recommended it to sanitize teeth. However, it was not until 1882 that the invention reached the general public thanks to the launch of the company Codman & Shurtleft, although in 1898 it was the Johnson & Johnson Corporation that received the first patent for the manufacture of dental floss.

Nowadays, dental floss has become a fundamental tool for oral hygiene, always combining it with regular brushing. At Clínica Bajo we usually recommend its use, and that is why today we want to talk about the different types of dental floss that we can find on the market.

How many types of floss are there?

Dental floss. The most common and the one we all know. It has a rounded surface and is used in normal interdental spaces, that is, that are not too large hollows.

Dental floss. In this case we can find it with wax or without wax and its surface is flat, it is indicated for people with larger interdental gaps than usual.

Super Floss. It is a specific thread for fixed bridges and orthodontic appliances. It differs from the rest in that they have a rigid segment to put on the appliance or bridge, a spongy segment to remove bacterial plaque and an unwaxed segment for the rest of the teeth.

Dental floss, whether of one type or another, depending on our needs, helps us to access places where the brush cannot reach. If we use it regularly, and correctly, we will achieve greater oral hygiene. At Clínica Bajo we always advise incorporating dental floss into our hygiene routine in order to prevent short and long term complications.
