Tratamiento de periodoncia para encías retraídas en clínica dental de Los Cristianos, Tenerife.

Today, thanks to all the advances that have taken place in medicine, we have innovative treatments capable of achieving what was previously thought impossible. A clear example of this is, as we will see in today’s article, the regeneration of receding gums.

When we talk about receding gums, we refer to the displacement of the gum margin towards the root part, which causes the root surface of the tooth to be exposed. This usually occurs due to the accumulation of plaque that produces inflammation in the gum and causes substances to be released that destroy the bone, taking it further towards the root. However, there are other causes as well.

Periodontal disease is the main cause of receding gums, but not the only one. There may be other reasons such as orthodontic traction, too strong brushing, poor position of the teeth, malformations, etc.

What can we do to regenerate receding gums?

The first step to follow is to know the exact cause of why it has occurred. Because if we do not determine the origin, we will not be able to combat it efficiently. Depending on the cause, one treatment or another may be determined.

There are several surgical techniques by which the exposed tooth root can be covered, this type of surgery is called mucogingival. One of the most common treatments is gingival connective tissue grafting, but there are other techniques such as guided tissue regeneration.

To determine which technique best suits each patient, at Clínica Bajo we carry out a personalised study of each case, because depending on the state of the bone, one method or another will be more effective. We would like to emphasize that although there are ways to regenerate receding gums, this is a serious oral problem that we must prevent as much as possible. That is why we recommend that our patients have check-ups every 6 months in cases where they have gum recession, always in the future. Request an appointment without obligation.

Because lost gum tissue doesn’t grow back on its own, ignoring the retraction can end up exposing the root of the tooth, leading to excruciating sensitivity or even tooth loss. At Clínica Bajo we analyse the exact cause of your recession to stop it at the root. We have advanced periodontics techniques in Los Cristianos and mucogingival microsurgery, allowing us to perform tissue micro-grafts to cover the exposed roots, eliminate sensitivity and restore health and natural aesthetics to your smile.
