The young population is approaching aesthetic medicine

The Spanish Society of Aesthetic Medicine (SEME) published in the report ‘Perception and use of Aesthetic Medicine in Spain 2023’ that an increasingly young population is using aesthetic medicine. This report revealed very interesting data on the main concerns of users who have undergone this type of treatment.

To prepare the report, the medical society conducted 1,500 interviews nationwide, resulting in a representative sample of what has been happening in our country in recent years. Below, we will examine some of the most interesting data.

The young population resorting to aesthetic medicine is increasing, and women continue to be the main patients

One of the most striking findings is the increase of young patients aged 16 to 25, between 14 and 20 percent, who have undergone some aesthetic medicine treatment. Furthermore, according to these data, it is estimated that 46.6% of the Spanish population has undergone an aesthetic medicine treatment at some point.

Currently, the patient profile consists of 69% women and 31% men, with women between 35 and 54 years of age being the most representative group. If we distribute by age, people between 16 and 25 years old represent 20%, between 25 and 34 years old 21%, from 35 to 45 years old 21% and more than 45 years old 38%.

We also believe it is important to highlight that, in terms of social class, it is estimated that 69% of patients correspond to upper or upper-middle class, 35% to middle class and 6% to lower class, which shows the lack of affordability of aesthetic medicine. This, together with the lack of knowledge about what aesthetic medicine really is, may be one of the reasons why intrusion is increasingly prevalent in Spain.
